James Arthur Goddard

James Arthur Goddard left his earthly home on Sunday, July 23, 2023, at the age of 87. He was born to Everett Clyde and Mattie Bell Windham Goddard on September 28, 1935. James married his sweetheart, Nellie Dawn “Donnie” Parham Goddard on Christmas Day 1958. He was a man of character and integrity but more importantly, a man of God. James would help anyone. He saw the good in people and wanted what was best for them. He was a faithful member of Booneville First Methodist Church. There he served as a member of Berean Sunday School class, Men’s Tuesday Morning Bible Study and Mrs. Barbara Hughes’s Wednesday Night Bible Study. James served in the United States Air Force. He was an active member of the Booneville Civitan Club for many years. James, along with his brother, Smith Goddard, founded Goddard’s Jewelry in 1958. He operated the jewelry store until his retirement. He enjoyed yard work, fishing, camping and traveling. Meeting with his coffee friends was the highlight of his day. Funeral services will be Wednesday, July 26, 2023, at 11:00 AM in the chapel of Booneville Funeral Home. Visitation for Mr. Goddard will be Tuesday, July 25, 2023, from 5:00 until 8:00 PM at Booneville Funeral Home. Bro. Trey Lambert and Bro. Bobby Hankins will be officiating. Burial will be in the Crossroads Cemetery. Booneville Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements. He is survived by his wife, Donnie; son, Jimbo Goddard and wife Anissa of Charleston, SC; daughter, Beverly Goddard of Booneville, MS; brother, Bobby Goddard of Booneville, MS; sister, Evelyn “Ruth” Strakis of West Palm Beach, FL; and sister-in-law, Virginia Goddard of Booneville, MS. He is preceded in death by his son, Kenny Goddard; his parents; brothers, Smith Goddard, Richard Goddard and Tommy Goddard; sisters, Esther Goddard, Mary Helen Goddard, Lora Bell Eaton and Juanita “Dank” Goddard. Pallbearers will be Freddie Turner, Bud Griffus, Harold Eaton, George Via, Ronny Guin and Bill Morgan. Honorary pallbearers will be Tim Jones, Bill Ward, Jr., John Andy Ward, Bob Eubank, Billy Joe Bridges, Bill Southward, Jimmy Grimes and Hal Willcoxon.
