Wallace Thurston Davis Sr.

Wallace Thurston Davis, Sr, ("Thurston"), age 81, died Sunday, November 15, 2015 at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. He was born June 9, 1934 in Phil Campbell, Alabama, to the late John Floyd and Myrtie Stisher Davis. Thurston was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Army Signal Corp in the Canal Zone as well as service during the Berlin Crises. A graduate of Phillips High School and the LSU School of Banking, he was a banker with the Peoples Bank and Trust Company, later known as Renasant Bank, for 36 years. He was a member of many community and civic organizations, including Rotary, the Prentiss County Development Foundation, and a long serving board member of the Yocona Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America and the North Mississippi Health Services Corporation. A member of Booneville First United Methodist Church, he enjoyed golf, watching Booneville High School Football, Northeast Mississippi Community College basketball, and spending quality time with his grandsons. Services will be held at the Booneville Funeral Home chapel at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 20, 2015, with the Ministers Doug Greenway and Greg Pollock officiating. A later graveside service with military honors will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. at the Tupelo Memorial Gardens. Booneville Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Thurston is survived by his wife of sixty-three years, Jo Ann Davis of Booneville, two sons Wally Davis (Traci) of Tupelo and Walt Davis (Kari) of Oxford, a brother Jack Davis of Haleyville, AL, two sisters Opal Shotts of McCalla, AL, and Janice Brown of Moorehaven, FL, and two grandsons, Luke Davis of Tupelo and Heath Davis (Lyndi) of Starkville. He is preceded in death by his parents and a brother, John Davis. Pallbearers will be his grandsons Luke Davis and Heath Davis, along with members of the Booneville Rotary Club. Honorary Pallbearers will be Don Williams, Billy Pounds, John Wroten, Coach Bill Ward, Sr., Manfred Saylors, Woodrow Brown, Bob Maddox and Ron Whitehead. Visitation will be Thursday, November 19, 2015 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Booneville Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the North Mississippi Medical Center Hospice Unit in Tupelo or the Pinevale Children’s Home in Corinth.
