Carol Thompson

Madeline Carol Thompson, 68, passed away peacefully Thursday, May 11, 2017, following a long, courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. She was born in Rienzi on December 7, 1948, to Earl T. and Nellie Killough Doss. Carol was a member of Thrasher High School’s class of 1966, where she was Valedictorian and Homecoming Queen. She married Kenneth Gerald Thompson of Wheeler on June 9, 1967. They made Booneville their home where they raised their two children, Cindi and Scott. She was a dedicated accounting employee of A.C. Wright Trucking for almost three decades. Her deep devotion to her faith was evident by her passion for her church. Over the years she volunteered her time and talents, which included being an avid member of the choir, service to various and numerous church committees, serving as church treasurer, and Sunday school teacher to various classes. She enjoyed church outings, listening to Southern gospel and bluegrass music, traveling, and especially spending time with her family. She was a devoted wife and mother and was a doting grandmother to her five precious grandchildren. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 13, 2017, at Gaston Baptist Church in Booneville. The funeral service will follow at 3 p.m. with Bro. Matt Brown officiating and eulogy offered by Bro. Paul Adams. Interment will be at Gaston Cemetery. Booneville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. She is survived by her husband, Gerald Thompson; one daughter Dr. Cynthia Thompson Savage (Michael) of Batesville; one son, Scott Thompson (Mary) of Oxford; four grandsons, Eli and Ford Wilson of Batesville, Baylor Savage of Oxford, Samuel Thompson of Northport, AL; and one granddaughter, Lucy Thompson of Northport, AL; aunts and uncles, Fred and Mary Zinn of Lee’s Summit, MO, Jimmy and Carolyn Killough of Tupelo, Eddie and Dale Killough, and Larry Gene (Yvonne) Killough both of Sarepta, Miss. She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Nellie; mother-in-law, Olene Thompson; sister, Pam Umfleet; and sister-in-law, Shirley Johnson. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to Sanctuary Hospice House, P.O. Box 2177, Tupelo, MS 38803.
