Oretia Thomas Daugherty

–

Booneville, Mississippi

Oretia Daugherty, 75, of the Burton community, passed away on Sunday, May 4, 2025. A woman of many talents and deep compassion, Oretia spent her life in service to others-as a deputy coroner, lab technician, X-ray technician, respiratory therapist, substitute teacher, Sunday school teacher, and volunteer firefighter/EMR at Burton Volunteer Fire Department. She had attended many colleges, universities and trade schools. Her love of learning and teaching extended beyond the classroom. She shared her passions as a beloved volunteer during story time at the Oxford Lafayette Library, for many years often bringing animals and sewing projects to delight and inspire children and adults. An avid quilter and devoted seamstress, Oretia also enjoyed crossword puzzles, reading books but mystery books and shows were her favorite, and cherished time spent with her beloved cats and grand-puppy, Valentino. Oretia adored her family and found great joy in her granddaughters and great-grandchildren. She is survived by her daughter, Francis Rose, daughter-in-love, Bridgette Miller; granddaughters, Britney Miller Floyd (Skyler) and Olivia Miller Frost (Blake); great-grandchildren, Greyson Brady, Niyah Floyd, Kai Frost, Ezra Floyd and John Declan Floyd. She also leaves behind her sister, Cynthia Thomas and brother, David LaMaonne Thomas. She is preceded in death by her son, John R. Miller; parents, Tendyll and Frances Thomas; brother, William Allen Moore (“Almo/Sonny”); and sister, Gloria Stevens. Memorial services will be held at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Booneville, MS, on Thursday, May 8, 2025, at 2:00 PM. A time with visiting with family will begin three hours prior, at the church, from 12:00 PM until service time at 2:00 PM. Father Mario Solorzano will be officiating. Booneville Funeral Home will be charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made toward final arrangements at Booneville Funeral Home. May we remember Oretia for her warmth, generosity, and the many lives she touched through her care, creativity and unwavering love.
